The “City of Science and Innovation” distinction is awarded to cities that distinguish themselves in supporting innovation in their territories, defining policies, empowering local structures, institutions and companies with a strong scientific, technological and innovative component.
Having already completed, for some cities, four years from the date of obtaining the distinction, it is appropriate to call for renewal and establish the criteria that will be applied for it.
Candidate cities must submit a descriptive report of the candidacy, prepared in accordance with the guidelines established in the call for applications. The activities that endorse or show the policy of support for innovation carried out from the granting of the distinction to the present, the analysis of compliance and validity if it comes from the programs that gave rise to the concession, the participation by the city council in the activities and meetings of the Innpulse Network, in the terms foreseen in the call for renewal will be exposed.
The purpose of this Resolution is to call for the renewal of the distinction for those cities that received it, within the framework of the call for 2021, through the Resolution of May 24, 2022, of the General Secretariat of Innovation.
Consequently, the cities to which this renewal call is addressed are those listed below:
Alcobendas (Madrid), Algeciras (Cádiz), Almería, Cerdanyola del Vallès (Barcelona), La Almunia de Doña Godina (Zaragoza), Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Las Rozas de Madrid (Madrid), Lorquí (Murcia), Oropesa del Mar (Castellón), Ortuella (Vizcaya), Pinto (Madrid), Ponferrada (León), San Fernando (Cázarrote), Sant Cugat del Zaragoza
Order CIN/2502/2010, of 17 September, creating the distinction ‘City of Science and Innovation’ and establishing its bases, as amended by Order CIN/2785/2010, of 29 October, as amended by Order CIN/1158/2023, of 9 October and as amended by Order CNU/705/2024, of 1 July.
Order of the Minister of Science, Innovation and Universities calling for the renewal of the “City of Science and Innovation” distinction for those cities that received it within the framework of the call for 2021.
The presentation of candidacies will necessarily be made through the electronic means enabled for this purpose in the Electronic Headquarters of the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities in the section “Procedures” and section “Awards and Recognitions”, being essential the subsequent signature of the candidacy and registration.

The deadline for submitting applications will begin on June 1, 2026 at 08:00 (peninsular time), and will end on June 25, 2026 at 14:00 (peninsular time).
