Milestone #313 includes a series of measures aimed at improving the technological and digital skills and competencies of universities. These include investment in digital educational resources and infrastructures, such as cloud data storage server networks, cybersecurity and the incorporation of classroom technologies to facilitate online courses, as well as investments in digital training for academic staff and students.
Investment actions will improve technological development and digital resources in support of digital education services. Support will be provided for centralised infrastructure and ICT services, with emphasis on fibre optic networks and the efficient deployment of ICT services, based on economies of scale and interoperability. Key objectives include investing in bridging the digital divide between academics and students in order to improve distance learning services and equipment. Other objectives include investing in the promotion of inter-university digital innovation projects that can be expanded and replicated on a larger scale, and supporting the National University of Distance Education (UNED) to enhance higher education opportunities in depopulated areas.
Through Royal Decree 641/2021 (boe.es), of July 27, the direct granting of grants to Spanish public universities for the modernization and digitization of the Spanish university system has been regulated.
