Ángel Rubio Secades, National Research Award ‘Blas Cabrera’ in the area of Physical Sciences, Materials and the Earth

Ángel Rubio Secades has been recognized for his extraordinary trajectory and scientific excellence, highlighting his work in computational solid-state physics, predicting new properties of nanoscale materials and, more recently, new phases of non-equilibrium of matter. The conceptual and methodological advances of his work have transformed the science of computational materials, opened new fields of experimental research and promoted the development of materials with novel properties.

Rubio is director of the Theory department at the Max Planck Gesellschaft Institute in Hamburg. He is also a Distinguished Researcher at the Simons Foundations Flatiron Institute (New York) and at the University of the Basque Country (San Sebastián).
