Miguel Ángel Mompeán García, National Research Award for Young People ‘Margarita Salas’ in the area of Biology

Miguel Ángel Mompeán has been recognized for his innovative and multidisciplinary vision of biology, applying techniques at the forefront of chemistry and structural biology. He has been a pioneer in combining Nuclear Magnetic Resonance spectroscopy in solution and biosolids to characterize the formation of biomolecular condensates and their conversion to amyloids. His discoveries about the structure and function of amyloids have a great impact, opening up new ways of diagnosing and treating pathologies associated with cell aging and viral infections.

Mompeán is an ERC Starting Grant researcher at the Institute of Physical Chemistry ‘Blas Cabrera’ of the CSIC.
