The Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities has awarded the National Research Awards 2020 to the following personalities:
- National Award "Santiago Ramón y Cajal", in the area of Biology to Francisco Sánchez Madrid.
- National Award "Ramón Menéndez Pidal" in the area of Humanities to Susana Narotzky.
- National Award "Leonardo Torres Quevedo" in the area of Engineering to José Capmany.
- National Award "Gregorio Marañón", in the area of Medicine to Elías Campo.
- National Award "Enrique Moles", in the area of Chemical Science and Technology to Nazario Martín.
- National Award "Alejandro Malaspina", in the area of Natural Resources Sciences and Technologies to Xavier Querol.
- National Award "Julio Rey Pastor", in the area of Mathematics and Information and Communication Technologies to Carme Torras.
- National Award "Juan de la Cierva", in the area of Technology Transfer to Laura Lechuga.
- National Award "Blas Cabrera", in the area of Physical Sciences, Materials and Earth to Luis Ibáñez.
- National Award "Pascual Madoz", in the area of Law and Economic and Social Sciences to Xavier Vives.
In this edition, a total of 100 nominations have been received, of which 22 were women and 78 men. The different juries, made up of prominent figures of science in the different areas of knowledge and balanced composition (50% women and 50% men), have failed the National Research Awards in their ten modalities. This is the first edition in which the ten modalities of the awards are incorporated in a single call, as a sign of the Government's commitment to scientific research of excellence. Until now, five modalities were convened each year.
