PERTE Commissioner for Avant-Garde Health
She holds a degree in Medicine and Surgery from the Complutense University of Madrid, a Doctor of Medicine, a specialist in Cardiology and a clinical researcher at the National Health System. For more than 20 years he combined research, assistance and teaching in the field of health at the Gregorio Marañón University General Hospital, with a special dedication to the care of patients with genetically based heart disease and their families, and to the realization and interpretation of cardiac imaging tests and genetic studies.
In the field of health management, from her position as Chief of Section in the Cardiology Service of the Gregorio Marañón University General Hospital, she has been responsible for the coordination of in-hospital and out-of-hospital cardiology care, and has participated in the implementation of mechanisms to facilitate continuity of care. He has also collaborated in the coordination of the Centers of National Reference (CSUR) of Family Heart Diseases and Congenital Heart Diseases of the Adult of that center and has been a member of the Commission of Pharmacy.
Between 2018 and 2021 she was general director of the Carlos III Health Institute, the main state body that coordinates and promotes biomedical research in Spain, and one of the main scientific and technical advisory institutions in the field of public health. Since August 2021, she was Secretary General of Research of the Ministry of Science and Innovation, to become Commissioner of the PERTE de Salud de Vanguardia since last December.
In addition, she has teaching experience as a collaborating professor of practical teaching at the Complutense University of Madrid, associate professor in the Department of Bioengineering of the Carlos III University and visiting professor in the Department of Genetics of Harvard University.
She has published more than 80 indexed scientific articles and has led competitive publicly funded research projects as a principal investigator from 2009 until her appointment as CEO in 2018.
She also undertook a fellowship at Cardiac Imaging at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St Louis, Missouri, earned an ISCIII Research Staff Training Fellowship, and received “Women Transforming Leadership” team management and leadership training at Said Business School at Oxford University.
