The CIEMAT seeks to serve as a bridge between R&D&I and objectives of social interest, working closely with other national R&D centres, institutions, universities and companies in the sector to transfer the knowledge and technology that have been generated. By doing so, it supports and helps to promote innovation and a new economic model based on knowledge.
Its mission is to contribute to the sustainable development of Spain and to the quality of life of citizens through the generation and application of scientific and technological knowledge. It stands out for maintaining a position as a centre of excellence in the scientific-technical areas in which it carries out its activities and has a technologically and geographically diversified human team made up of 1,328 people.
Currently, its main lines of action are the study, development, promotion and optimisation of different energy sources: renewable energy, fusion, fission and fossil fuels; the study of their impact on the environment; the development of new technologies; without forgetting areas of fundamental research such as high-energy physics and biomedicine.
