Centre for Energy, Environmental and Technological Research

Public Research Agency attached to the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities through the General Secretariat of Research, focused mainly on the fields of energy and the environment and the technological fields related to both.  

The scope of activity of CIEMAT seeks to serve as a bridge between R+D+I and the objectives of social interest, working closely with other national R+D+I centers, institutions, universities and companies in the sector of our country in order to transfer the knowledge and technology that have been generated. With this, it supports and helps the promotion of innovation and a new economic model based on knowledge.

Its mission is to contribute to the sustainable development of Spain and to the quality of life of citizens through the generation and application of scientific and technological knowledge. It stands out for maintaining a position of centre of excellence in the scientific-technical areas in which it carries out its activity and has a human team made up of 1,328 people, diversified technologically and geographically.

Currently, the main lines of action are the study, development, promotion and optimization of different energy sources: renewables, fusion, fission and fossil fuels; the study of their impact on the environment; the development of new technologies; not forgetting fundamental research areas such as high-energy physics and biomedicine.
