Organic Law of the University System (LOSU)
The objective of Organic Law 2/2023, of March 22, of the University System (LOSU) is to regulate the university system and the mechanisms of coordination, cooperation and collaboration between public administrations with university competences.
The following aspects are highlighted in this Law:
- It develops an academic model that ensures advanced and extensive comprehensive training and the development of personal and professional skills, both teaching and research, to develop critical thinking and to access quality jobs.
- It includes lifelong or lifelong learning as an essential dimension of the University’s teaching function. Likewise, transfer and connection formulas are established between higher vocational training and the University at the service of the processes of job and personal updating of the population as a whole.
- It incorporates substantial modifications in the provisions relating to students, such as its statutes, greater publicity to the academic offer, student participation in all services and aspects that affect them in their academic and vital trajectory, the quality and intensity of the university experience and the recognition of students of academic credits for their involvement in social and university activities.
- It establishes that the collegiate bodies and the evaluation and selection committees in the universities will guarantee a balanced composition between women and men.
- It promotes the status of universities as agents of creation and cultural reflection, as well as of protection, conservation and diffusion of the historical and cultural heritage of which they are depositaries.
- It establishes three levels of progression compared to the four that have been in force until now. Thus, the academic career will follow the stages of incorporation, consolidation and promotion.
