Gender equality

The reform of the Law on Science will for the first time give legal certainty to gender equality in the R&D&I system. It includes programs to support women’s progress in the scientific career, positive action measures in favor of women, and programs to promote women’s innovative entrepreneurship.

The gender perspective will be a transversal axis of the planning instruments of the public agents in science, technology and innovation, which must have and evaluate annually a plan of gender equality and also have protocols against sexual harassment and on the basis of gender or sexual orientation.

The regulation provides for the creation of a gender equality mark in R&D&I for centres that demonstrate that they meet criteria of excellence in this field, as well as the obligation to establish mechanisms to eliminate gender biases in selection and evaluation processes.

On the other hand, the gender perspective is reinforced in the content of research and knowledge transfer, promoting gender studies from an inclusive and transversal vision.
