LT4.A2.1: Creation of Clinical Research Units
Spain is currently the second country in the world to develop clinical trials and has excellent conditions to maintain this leadership. From a strategic point of view, the infrastructure and clinical research capacities in the Spanish SNS must evolve to retain and increase investments from the pharmaceutical industry and, at the same time, improve equitable access to it by patients. Many of the research activities resulting from this modality of public-private collaboration have the tendency to concentrate on the large Spanish scientific poles. This means that some areas with greater geographical dispersion are less competitive in attracting clinical trials, which may limit patients’ access to clinical research. It is expected that the CC.AA. where the beneficiary centers are located collaborate in their long-term sustainability within the care and research structure so that the creation of new Clinical Research Units generates new capacities in different territories, favoring territorial equity.
