Susana Marcos. National Research Award Leonardo Torres Quevedo, in the area of Engineering.

Susana Marcos is a forerunner in the development of new techniques for diagnosing and correcting ophthalmic problems: “In our lab, we do research on the eye. We start from a fundamental point of view, understanding the mechanisms of vision and we go all the way until that diagnostic method or that treatment becomes something that reaches the clinic.”

She is currently professor of Research and director of the Laboratory of Visual Optics and Biophotonics (Institute of Optics, CSIC), where she supervises a large multidisciplinary and international team: “Our developments have a huge potential impact, and many of them are already in the hands of ophthalmologists and patients.”

With more than 165 highly cited research publications, Susana Marcos is the inventor of 17 patent families and co-founder of the spin-off ‘2Eyes Vision’. He currently chairs the Scientific Technical Committee of the State Research Agency and is a member of the Scientific Advisory Council of various public and private organizations.
