The amendment of Law 14/2011 on Science, Technology and Innovation incorporates the concept of science as a common good and establishes as a general objective the promotion of open science and the participation of civil society in scientific processes.
On the other hand, the Spanish Strategy for Science, Technology and Innovation (EECTI) 2021-2027 has as its basic principle the social and economic responsibility of R+D+I through the incorporation of citizen science and the application of co-creation and open access policies, as well as the alignment of R+D+I with social values, needs and expectations.
The EECTI aims to promote the commitment of Spanish society to R+D+I, promote dissemination and scientific culture, reflect on the role of science and technology in today’s society and achieve an open and inclusive science and innovation.
On the other hand, Organic Law 2/2023, of March 22, of the University System, establishes the promotion of citizen science as a field of shared knowledge generation between citizens and the university research system.
Currently, FECYT is working on a National Strategy for Scientific Culture and Innovation that will become a frame of reference to consolidate an ecosystem of communication, culture and coordinated, robust and reliable social participation.
