The Spanish Research Ethics Committee, created by Law 14/2011, of 1 June, on Science, Technology and Innovation, is attached to the Scientific, Technological and Innovation Policy Council, as a collegiate, independent and consultative body on matters related to professional ethics in scientific and technical research.
The Committee ' s main functions include:
- Issue reports, proposals and recommendations on matters related to professional ethics in scientific and technical research.
- Establish general principles for the development of codes of good practice in scientific and technical research, which will include the resolution of conflicts of interest between public and private activities. These codes will be developed by the Research Ethics Committees and the Bioethics Committee of Spain.
- Represent Spain in supranational and international forums and bodies related to research ethics, except in the field of bioethics in which the representation of Spain will correspond to the Bioethics Committee of Spain.
- Promote the creation of ethics commissions linked to the executing agents of the Spanish System of Science, Technology and Innovation.
