The Consortium for the promotion of the construction in Spain of the scientific-technical infrastructure “International Fusion Materials Irradiation Facilities-Demo Oriented Neutron Source” (IFMIF-DONES Spain) is based in Granada and is co-financed by the General Administration of the State and the Junta de Andalucía. It aims to contribute to the European Fusion Programme, among others, by participating in the design, construction and operation of the IFMIF-DONES scientific facility.
IFMIF-DONES is a neutron source, based on a high-current particle accelerator, whose objective is the development, qualification and licensing of materials capable of withstanding the extreme conditions to which the components of the first wall of the future fusion reactor will be exposed. The construction of IFMIF-DONES is one of the fundamental pillars of the European “roadmap” to achieve the objective of building an Electrical Fusion Production Demonstration Plant (DEMO). IFMIF-DONES Spain will manage and promote scientific, economic, technical and administrative collaboration between all participating entities. In addition, it will hold the scientific-technical ownership of the scientific infrastructure. It will be a research infrastructure to test and validate the materials to be used in future fusion power plants such as DEMO.
