The main PLOCAN facility, the oceanic platform, will be located in the open sea, one mile off the coast, in the municipality of Telde (northwest of the island of Gran Canaria) in an area of 23 km2 reserved for scientific-technical experimentation.
The Oceanic Platform of the Canary Islands is an infrastructure managed by the PLOCAN Consortium (co-financed in equal parts by the Spanish Administration and the Government of the Autonomous Community of the Canary Islands). Its mission is to support cutting-edge research, technological development and innovation in the marine and maritime fields. The infrastructure facilitates access to and efficient use of the ocean with the highest environmental guarantees, providing scientific laboratories, vehicles, test rigs and, in general, technical means and infrastructures located in the PLOCAN marine environment.
