The main installation of PLOCAN, the oceanic platform, will be located in the open sea, one mile from the coast, in the municipality of Telde (northwest of the island of Gran Canaria) in an area of 23 km2 reserved for scientific-technical experimentation.
The Canary Islands Ocean Platform is an infrastructure managed by the PLOCAN Consortium (co-financed equally by the General Administration of the State and the Government of the Autonomous Community of the Canary Islands). Its objective is to allow the realization of research, technological development and cutting-edge innovation in the marine and maritime field. The infrastructure allows access and efficient use of the ocean with the greatest environmental guarantees, providing scientific laboratories, vehicles, test benches and, in general, technical means and infrastructures located in the PLOCAN marine environment.
