This infrastructure forms part of the Animal Health Research Centre located on the University of Barcelona (UAB) campus. It is a public foundation created in 1999 by the UAB and the Institute of Agri-Food Research and Technology (IRTA).
The CReSA High Biosafety Laboratory has a total working area of 1,500 m2 and is classified as Biosafety Level 3. It offers the possibility of working in laboratories with a surface area of 350 m2, fully equipped for virology, immunology, and cellular and molecular biology studies. Notably, it is also possible to carry out studies on cell populations (Cell Sorter) under biocontainment conditions.
There are also twelve experimental animal rooms with a total surface area of 1,150 m2 for both large farm and wild animals and small laboratory animals.
CReSA's main objectives include research, technological development, knowledge transfer and education in the field of animal health and all its implications for public health.
