The LRB is part of the Scientific and Technological Centers (CCiT) of the UB. It is located in a space of 722 m2 in the modular building of the Barcelona Science Park, specially designed to house high-field NMR spectrometers, with a vibration-free environment, thermally regulated to ensure high stability and low magnetic interference. The installation has been in operation since 2000.
It has an extensive set of instruments with diverse fields and configurations complemented by access to laboratories for the expression and purification of labeled proteins and the possibility of integrating NMR with a large number of other experimental techniques in the CCiT of the UB.
MRI is used for the study of a wide variety of areas such as biomolecule structure and dynamics, functional biology (in vivo MRI), drug identification and optimization in pharmaceutical research, including drug release, structural identification in organic and inorganic chemistry, food technology and new materials. The LRB continuously works on methodological development to optimize the performance of the available instrumentation and facilitate, together with users, the development and implementation of new applications.
