European university alliances are a flagship initiative of the European strategy for universities aimed at establishing alliances between higher education institutions across Europe, for the benefit of their students, their staff and society. It is implemented mainly through Erasmus+ funding and encompasses 65 alliances of European universities with more than 570 higher education institutions of all kinds, from all over Europe.
By developing long-term structural, strategic and sustainable cooperation between higher education institutions in the alliances of European universities, the initiative aims to:
- Improving the international competitiveness of higher education institutions in Europe
- Promoting European values and identity
Through these partnerships, students can obtain a degree by combining studies in several European countries.
The initiative has the potential to bring greater benefits to higher education institutions than any previous cooperation project.
Spanish universities are actively involved in this initiative that promotes the international competitiveness of higher education institutions in Europe.
Within the framework of the European Presidency of the Council, Spain has organized the Second European Partnership Forum, which took place in Barcelona on 14 and 15 September 2023.
