Design in Public Administrations

Design is a fundamental lever of innovation and modernization in the field of Public Administrations. The versatility and maturity of the “science” of design help to address the challenges faced by public administrations.

The administrations are increasingly looking for the contracting of those products and services of quality that, in addition to fulfilling the purposes for which they are claimed, guarantee a positive impact on the citizenship.

The study “Keys to the public procurement of design services”, shows the steps to carry out a procurement of design services in a more successful way.

With the aim of incorporating design thinking in public organizations and strategies, the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities formed in 2019 a Working Group of Public Administrations and Design that works to achieve these objectives.

This document highlights the enormous potential that design has as a catalyst for innovation and modernization in the field of Public Administrations. In addition, it shows relevant examples of private companies, public institutions and international organizations that have understood the potential of design and incorporated it into the center of their organizations and strategies.

Finally, the report stresses that Spain is a country with enormous talent and a great tradition in the field of design. For this reason, we must value this potential and make it easier for design to be recognized as a critical lever for innovation.
