The Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities has promoted the declaration of World Design Capital Valencia 2022 (WDC Valencia 2022) as an Event of Exceptional Public Interest, being declared as such in Law 11/2020, of December 30, of General State Budgets for the year 2021. The tax benefit program runs from January 1, 2021 through August 31, 2023.

The inter-administrative body responsible for the implementation of the programme to support the celebration of the event of exceptional public interest “València, World Design Capital 2022 / València World Design Capital 2022” in a constitutive meeting of 22 December 2021 has approved the objectives and plans that will encompass all the activities. The celebration of WDC Valencia 2022 materializes in a transversal program of activities, with the aim of disseminating design and innovation as a tool for the improvement of life, human relations with the environment, communication and the business product.

The WDC Valencia 2022 program includes more than a hundred events —including interventions, congresses and professional meetings, publications and own productions and exhibitions— that will cover all disciplines of design around six strategic axes:

  • health and welfare,
  • didactics of design,
  • economy and innovation,
  • legacy and identity,
  • environmental sustainability and
  • Equity, inclusion and diversity.

WDC Valencia 2022 will have a direct benefit over the national population in terms of sustainability, education, culture and mobility and will contribute to social and economic development.

Act of support for WDC Valencia 2022

In July 2020, Tinglado 2 of La Marina de València hosted in a public event the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities, the Generalitat Valenciana and the Ajuntament de València, in which they showed strong public support for Valencian design.

The event was a recognition of the group of professionals and companies from the Valencian Community that have received these awards since they began in 1987.

This event was the prelude to the National Innovation and Design Awards 2019, whose award ceremony was held at the Museu de les Ciències with the presence of the Kings of Spain and the former Minister of Science and Innovation, Pedro Duque.
