The Integrated University Information System (SIIU) is a platform for the collection, processing, analysis and dissemination of data from the Spanish University System. The SIIU brings together resources from all the institutions that make up the Spanish University System and allows for homogeneous and comparable information.
In 2010, the development of the SIIU began with the participation of the autonomous communities, universities and the Ministry, for which the Statistical and University Information Commission was created, a fundamental pillar of the system.
Royal Decree 822/2021, of September 28, which establishes the organization of university education and the quality assurance procedure, establishes that the Ministry will maintain an Integrated University Information System (SIIU) to cover the information needs of the entire Spanish university system and administrations, and will provide the competent external evaluation bodies with the information necessary to carry out quality assurance procedures. SIIU will also carry out activities, based on the statistics and information collected, of observation, analysis and foresight, in collaboration with universities and quality agencies.
The SIIU is divided into different areas and in each of them there are variables and indicators that allow an exhaustive analysis of the various dimensions of the university system. The information available is as follows:
- Auxiliary area. The universities, public and private, with their centers, units and studies taught.
- Academic area. Students with their curricular, social and demographic characteristics. The PAU and pre-registration processes.
- Human resources area. Teaching and Research Staff (PDI), Research Staff (PI) and Administration and Services Staff (PAS) with their professional, social and demographic characteristics.
- Economic area. The annual accounts of the universities: their budgetary liquidations and financial indicators.
- Area of scholarships and study grants. Scholarships awarded by the State, the autonomous communities and the universities, as well as curricular and sociodemographic information of their beneficiaries.
- Area of labour insertion. The entry and maintenance of university graduates in the labour market.
The SIIU is intended for all agents involved in decision-making regarding the Spanish University System: Ministry, autonomous communities, universities, social councils and quality agencies.
