The National Agency for Quality Assessment and Accreditation (ANECA) aims to promote and ensure quality in higher education, and especially in Spanish universities, both in the national and international context through the assessment, certification and accreditation of teaching, teaching staff and university institutions and centres.
Within its remit, the ANECA is responsible for the assessment of:
- Education leading to the achievement of official university degrees that are valid throughout Spain.
- The merits of those who aspire to teaching bodies and contract professors from universities.
- The teaching, research, knowledge transfer and management activities of the teaching and research staff of universities and of the professional civil research staff of Public Research Organisations.
- University and research institutions and centres.
- Foreign university degrees through approval or equivalence procedures.
- The correspondence to the levels of the Spanish Framework of Qualifications for Higher Education (MECES) of national university degrees prior to Royal Decree 1393/2007.
Apart from the procedures for the assessment of teaching and teaching staff arising from the current regulations, ANECA acts as an assessment body for periodic calls in competitive competition from the General Secretariat for Universities, as well as for those processes in which a merit evaluation carried out by academic peers is required.
