The Council of Universities is the body of academic coordination, as well as cooperation, consultation and proposal in university matters.
In article 1.5 f) of Royal Decree 472/2024, of 7 May, which develops the basic organic structure of the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities, the Council of Universities (CU) is cited as an organ attached to the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities, through the General Secretariat of Universities, which will exercise the functions attributed to them by Organic Law 2/2023, of 22 March, of the University System (LOSU). Article 16 of this organic law refers to the Council of Universities defining it as an academic coordination body of the Spanish university system, as well as cooperation, consultation and proposal in university matters.
The Council of Universities shall be chaired by the head of the Ministry responsible for universities and shall be composed of the Rectors of the universities and five members appointed by the President of the Council.
In addition, under its rules of procedure, the Conference will have two Vice-Presidents and one Secretary.
