The XXXIV Spanish Antarctic Campaign will host 13 research projects, of which 9 are funded by the State Research Agency (AEI) and four that are historical series. In addition, like each campaign, the State Meteorological Agency will support weather and climate prediction and observation and information during the Antarctic campaign.
The Spanish Polar Committee has coordinated the preparation of the campaign and especially the adaptation of protocols and actions in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic. The aim is to develop the scientific program in Antarctica with certainty, so that none of the people involved will face the disease and that the Antarctic Continent will continue to be free of the virus. Institutional coordination has been, this year more than ever, essential for the safe development of the campaign.
In this campaign, Spain has been forced to limit the participation of foreign projects in its facilities due to the difficulties imposed by the conditions of the pandemic.
