Located in the Scientific and Technological Park of Cantabria (PCTCAN, Santander) and managed by the Foundation Institute of Environmental Hydraulics.
The Great Maritime Engineering Tank of Cantabria (GTIM) is an installation in which a set of tanks and experimental channels are integrated with a computer simulation system that allows to reproduce the conditions of wind, waves and currents from anywhere in the world. Its maximum exponents are a large deep water tank (40 x 33 x 4.5 meters) and the tsunami channel (CocoTsu). Its activity focuses mainly on the study of problems related to the dynamics of the coast and its natural systems, protection infrastructures, ports, offshore platforms, marine renewable energies and any specific technology applicable in the marine field.
Unique infrastructure, due to its dimensions and singularities, the GTIM has been classified by the Government of Spain as a "Singular Scientific and Technical Infrastructure" and is one of the four largest and best performing tanks in Europe, ranked among the top fifteen in the world.
