The CALP is part of the IAC, composed of the General Administration of the Spanish State, the Autonomous Community of the Canary Islands, the University of La Laguna and the CSIC.
The main objective of the IAC is astrophysical research, the development of scientific instrumentation and the administration of the observatories of the Teide and the Roque de los Muchachos.
To facilitate the use of supercomputing, the IAC has specialized engineers who support researchers.
The CALP offers the RES the supercomputer La Palma, which has 1,024 cores and is able to perform more than 9 billion operations per second and can store 37 TB. As the CALP is also a point of presence of the Spanish academic and research network (RedIRIS), the connectivity with the node is 10Gbps. This allows you to connect to the Roque de los Muchachos and Teide observatories at high speed, as well as being accessible from any national, European and international research centre.
La Palma offers 50% of its computing power to the RES.
