The CSUC is a public consortium that over 22 years has provided services related to ICT infrastructures, with the desire to share academic, scientific, library, knowledge transfer and management services, in order to improve efficiency and effectiveness by enhancing synergies and economies of scale.
Ten Catalan universities and the Government of Catalonia are part of the CSUC. Originally founded as the Supercomputing Center of Catalonia in 1991 for the provision of computing services, today it provides services to around 200 institutions (universities, research centers, hospitals, technology centers, science parks...), with numerous research projects in areas such as physics, theoretical chemistry, biomolecular modeling, Earth sciences, numerical methods in engineering…etc.
The CSUC offers three supercomputers with different architectures and numerous specialized software to meet the needs of its users, who not only facilitates access to supercomputers, but also provides highly specialized technical and scientific support through a comprehensive supercomputing service.
There are two calculation clusters and a shared memory equipment, an SGI Altix UV1000 (1,344 cores, 112 TB of disk, 6 TB of memory) that allow simulations with high memory demand.
CSUC contributes 20% of its computing capacity to the RES.
