Harassment contaminates the work environment and can have a devastating effect on the health, confidence, morale and performance of people who suffer from it.
Sexual harassment and harassment on the basis of sex are contrary to the principle of equal treatment between men and women, and constitute discrimination on the basis of sex.
Such forms of discrimination occur not only in the workplace, but also in the context of access to employment, vocational training and promotion.
Zero tolerance for sexual harassment, sexual harassment, and any discrimination based on sexual orientation, sexual identity, gender expression, and/or sexual characteristics.
From the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities there is a policy of zero tolerance against any situation of sexual harassment, harassment on the basis of sex, and against any discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation, sexual identity, gender expression and/or sexual characteristics, in all its forms and modalities, without any distinction for who the person affected or the cause is, or whatever their situation in the organization or workplace.
Lines of action:
- zero tolerance for sexual harassment and harassment on the basis of sex,
- identification and prevention of sexist environments,
- early detection of risk situations,
- acting on the principles of confidentiality and speed; and
- Follow-up and responsibility.
Actions and measures:
The Under-Secretariat for Science, Innovation and Universities has approved the following protocols:
- Instruction of the Under-Secretariat of Science, Innovation and Universities for the adaptation to the scope of the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities of the Protocol of action against sexual harassment and harassment on grounds of sex within the scope of the General Administration of the State and its public bodies, approved by Royal Decree 247/2024, of 8 March.
- Instruction of the Under-Secretariat of Science, Innovation and Universities on Protocol of action against behaviors that imply discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation, sexual identity, gender expression and/or sexual characteristics in the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities.
The Women and Science Unit has produced a series of informative videos and teaching materials to raise awareness and sensitize against sexism, sexual harassment and sexual harassment in any work environment where research and innovation are carried out, such as:
- Identify and eradicate machista microbehaviours in R+D+I.
- Tolerancia cero frente al acoso sexual y acoso por razón de sexo en la I+D+I.
