How to apply for the title by Royal Decree 450/2005?
The title of specialist nurse, regulated by Royal Decree 450/2005 (boe.es), of April 22, on nursing specialties, is official and valid throughout the national territory and will be necessary to use, expressly, the name of Specialist, to exercise the profession with such character and to occupy jobs with such denomination in public and private centers and establishments.
The nursing specialties included in Royal Decree 450/2005 are as follows:

- Geriatric Nursing.
- Pediatric Nursing.
- Family and Community Nursing.
- Mental Health Nursing.
- Labor Nursing.
- Nursing in Medical-Surgical Care.
As of January 1, 2022, the titles of Specialists in Health Sciences are issued in the Ministry of Health (sanidad.gob.es).
What does the exceptional procedure consist of?
This is a procedure aimed at Technical Health Assistants/ Graduates/ Nursing Graduates who wish to access one of the specialties approved in Royal Decree 450/2005 (boe.es), of 22 April, on Nursing Specialties and who, in addition to passing an objective test, previously prove a professional exercise in the specific field of the specialty requested in one of the situations described in the second transitory provision of the said royal decree.
Currently, only the specialty of Medical-Surgical Care Nursing can be requested by the exceptional route, since the deadline for the submission of applications for the rest of the specialties is finished. Only the specialty of medical-surgical care remains open, since the training program is not yet approved.
