Royal Decree 475/2014, of 13 June, on bonuses in the Social Security contribution of research staff, in its article 6 establishes the definition of innovative SMEs for the purpose of obtaining the reference seal.
Order ECC/1087/2015, of June 5, regulates the obtaining of the seal of "Innovative SME" and the operation of the Registry of Innovative Small and Medium Enterprises.
Advantages of obtaining the “Innovative SME” seal
Obtaining the seal allows companies to combine, within the framework of the same project, the bonuses in the social security contribution of the research staff exclusively dedicated to it with the tax deductions for R+D+I established in article 35 of the Corporate Tax Law.
In addition, they can benefit from the possible lines of aid that expressly mention the status of “innovative SMEs”, and they can participate in public procurement through the so-called Innovative Public Procurement (possibility of pre-commercial contracting to innovative SMEs).
The registration of the company entails obtaining the seal and allows the company to display the logo and official format of the seal so that users know that this SME is innovative and recognized as such. In addition, the company will be able to use this badge for commercial traffic and advertising purposes.
Registration procedure
The public registry of innovative SMEs is completely telematic. Registration is made through the Ministry’s electronic headquarters at no cost to companies.

The registry of Innovative SMEs is public and individual consultation (through the CIF of the entity) or downloading of all registered entities is allowed.
