The Europe 2020 Strategy marks the path towards smart, sustainable and inclusive growth for the European Union this decade. The 2014-2020 cohesion policy programme, planned and coordinated by the Directorate-General for European Funds, focused on preparing the following strategic documents:

This is a national strategic document drawn up by each Member State, setting out the strategy and investment priorities of the cohesion policy funds (ERDF, ESF, EAFRD and EMFF) for the 2014-2020 period.

- Spain's Multi-Regional Operational Programme for 2014-2020
This Operational Programme is the result of the merger of the previous Smart Growth Operational Programme and the Sustainable Growth Operational Programme for 2014-2020. It specifies the strategy and overall objectives of intervention by the General State Administration (AGE), co-financed with the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), in the areas of smart and sustainable growth (including inclusive growth in urban environments).
