This supercomputer is integrated into the Scientific-Technical Services (SCTI) of the University of Cantabria (UC), and is installed in the Institute of Physics of Cantabria (IFCA), a center dependent on the UC and the CSIC. The IFCA has research lines in astrophysics, high-energy physics and distributed computing.
The second Altamira system was launched in October 2012 and features 163 IBM iDataPlex nodes with Xeon processors, connected by Infiniband QDR network, including five nodes with Tesla GPUs, offering a total of more than 7,500 cores.
The total available memory is more than 10 TB (64 GB/node), and the calculation power exceeds 50 Tflops/s. Each node is interconnected by an Infiniband network to a high-performance global parallel file system GPFS, with a total capacity of more than 2 PB.
Está conectado a RedIIRIS directamente mediante fibra oscura con un ancho de banda actual de 10 Gb/s. Altamira contributes 20% of its resources to the RES.
