The Higher Council for Scientific Research (CSIC) is the largest public institution in Spain dedicated to scientific and technical research and one of the most outstanding in the European Research Area. Attached to the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities through the General Secretariat of Research, the CSIC is structured in three major areas, Society, Life and Matter, which cover most of the human knowledge and in which the activity of more than 1,500 research groups of its 120 centers is framed.
Its objectives include bringing scientific and technological capabilities and achievements closer to all national and international socio-economic sectors, in order to ensure that they are transformed into social, economic and cultural well-being for society as a whole.In addition, it continuously promotes the international dimension of its scientific production with close relations with international research entities.
The mission of the CSIC is to promote, coordinate, develop and disseminate scientific and technological research, of a multidisciplinary nature, in order to contribute to the advancement of knowledge and economic, social and cultural development, as well as to the training of personnel and advice to public and private entities in these matters.
It has the competence to carry out activities aimed at:
the generation of knowledge through scientific and technical research,
the transfer of research results with special attention to the promotion and creation of technology-based companies,
expert advice to public administrations and private institutions,
pre- and postdoctoral training and high qualification;
the promotion of scientific culture in society,
the management of large facilities and unique scientific and technical infrastructures,
presence and representation in international bodies, and
The development of oriented research.
