Iberian Centre for Research in Energy Storage (CIIAE)

The General Administration of the State, through the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities (MCIN) and the Center for Energy, Environmental and Technological Research (CIEMAT), and the Junta de Extremadura, through the Ministry of Economy, Science and Digital Agenda and FUNDECYT-PCTEX, initiate actions aimed at the creation, equipment and implementation of an Iberian R&D center in energy storage.

These actions will be carried out under the management of FUNDECYT-PCTEX, until the moment in which the corresponding international instruments are signed between the Kingdom of Spain and the Republic of Portugal that allow the creation and approval of the statutes of the Iberian Centre for Research in Energy Storage (CIIAE), which will finally be responsible for the management and exploitation of the elements that make up the CIIAE.

Both parties, jointly and through the corresponding equal contribution, will collaborate to give impetus to the creation and provision of the elements that are essential for the implementation of the ICLEI infrastructure.

The main objective of the center will be to contribute to solving the scientific and technological challenges that allow the management of green energies, through scientific research, technological development and innovations in energy storage to meet industrial demands and the needs of society for a sustainable energy future.

To this end, the Iberian center will focus its activity on the following three large areas to achieve its objectives:

  • Research and development of energy storage technologies and their integration with green energies.
  • Close collaboration with the industrial sector and joint development of technologies.
  • Advice and training in green energies and their management.
