Ignacio De la Torre Sainz, National Research Award Ramón Menéndez Pidal in Humanities

Ignacio De la Torre Sainz is an archaeologist at the CSIC, Instituto de Historia in Madrid. He has been awarded for his career and his contribution to the study of human origins from an interdisciplinary perspective that combines paleontology, geography, physics, geology, archaeology and biology. He has led important international projects in Africa, Asia and Europe, and redefined key concepts in paleolithic archaeology. In particular, in relation to primate archaeology, the study of Neanderthals, and the identification of the oldest human tools.
