Miguel Leiro Fernández-Cuesta National Design Award 2025 Young Design Professionals

Miguel Leiro Fernández-Cuesta has been described by the jury as an exponent and example of an extraordinary generation of young Spanish designers and recognizes his creative audacity and ability to dynamize and make visible the emerging design in Spain.

He also values his ability to generate networks and his commitment to pedagogy and experimentation, which makes him one of the most influential young professionals of the new generation of national design. Industrial designer trained at the Pratt Institute in New York and with extensive international experience, Leiro has stood out for his experimental and multidisciplinary approach, thanks to a balanced combination of material and conceptual research with the creation of objects and spaces that dialogue with history, anthropology and contemporary culture.

He has worked in reference studies and has developed projects such as Civitá, at the Royal Academy of Spain in Rome, where he integrated artisanal and academic knowledge in the production of unique pieces. His greatest contribution to the Spanish design ecosystem is the foundation and direction of the cultural association Office of Design and the biennial Mayrit, a platform that, since 2020, has opened creative spaces to young talents and risky proposals, connecting independent designers with institutions, media and international public.
