The General Secretariat for Innovation provides leadership in the areas of science, innovation and universities, as well as promoting the achievement of objectives and the implementation of the projects of its organization.
The functions of this General Secretariat for Innovation are also:
- The direction of the competences attributed to the department in the field of innovation.
- The strategic direction of the Public Business Entity Center for Technological Development and Innovation (CDTI) and the strategic coordination of the State Agency "Spanish Space Agency".
- The management of operational programmes co-financed by European Union funds.
- Coordination of activities to promote strategic areas of innovation.
- The issuance of motivated reports regarding compliance with scientific and technological requirements for the application and interpretation of tax deductions for research and development and technological innovation activities.
- The accreditation and management of the registry of Innovative SMEs on bonuses in the Social Security contribution of the research staff.
- The impulse to the public purchase of innovation.
- The management of actions related to the “Innpulse Network – Network of Cities of Science and Innovation”.
- The promotion of joint programs with Autonomous Communities and Local Entities in the field of innovation.
- Relations and coordination with other units, bodies and agencies of the General Administration of the State responsible for innovation policies and sectoral policies closely related to them.
- The relations, participation and representation of the ministry in agencies, programs and working groups in the field of innovation in strategic sectors at national and international level.
- The coordination, design, execution and evaluation of strategies, programs and initiatives in the field of innovation in public policies.
- Coordinating the contribution to national strategies and plans in the field of innovation.
- The promotion of design as a lever of innovation and as an instrument of transformation and modernization of public administration.
- The management of national awards in terms of innovation and design.
- The coordination of the activity of the Interministerial Working Group of the Aerospace PERTE and the Alliance for the Aerospace PERTE.
- The coordination and promotion of the design, execution and monitoring of initiatives of the Aerospace PERTE in the field of the General Administration of the State.
- The enhancement of collaboration with other Public Administrations and public-private collaboration for the optimal implementation of the Aerospace PERTE measures.
- The promotion of strategies, policies and measures that promote the Spanish aerospace sector.
- The coordination of State aid, within the scope of its competences, with the State Research Agency and the Public Business Entity Center for Technological Development and Innovation (CDTI).
