The National Centre for Electron Microscopy (Main Transversal Action of the Moncloa Campus of International Excellence) was designed in accordance with the study carried out by the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECYT) on Unique Scientific and Technical Infrastructures (ICTS) to develop, implement and offer the national and international scientific communities the most advanced methods and techniques in transmission and scanning electron microscopy for the structural analysis of materials. The centre is equipped with a suite of state-of-the-art microscopes, instruments and techniques for advanced sample preparation and the application of computational methods for image processing. These microscopes feature technical and scientific components that significantly increase their capabilities, making the CNME a benchmark for national and international scientific research.
These instruments make the centre entirely unique as the microscopy techniques employed are not found in any other laboratory in Spain or anywhere else in the world. As such, the CNME facilitates coordinated work under the best methodological conditions for the entire study process, from the preparation of samples to the most advanced mathematical treatment for the resolution of structures.
