Do you want to practice as a solicitor in Spain?

Procurador/a is a regulated profession in Spain and to exercise it you need a specific training and qualification provided by law or regulation.

What do you need to validate your university degree?

Access to the Attorney General’s Office in Spain with the current legislation requires four steps:

  • Degree in Spanish Law.
  • University Master's Degree in Procura. It has to be studied later, it cannot be simultaneous. (Access regulated by Royal Decree 775/2011 (boe.es), of June 3).
  • Examination at the Ministry of Justice (annual calls).
  • Tuition at the Provincial Community College where you will reside.

IMPORTANT

With a foreign university degree, according to the regulations applicable today for this profession, it is impossible to obtain an homologation, however, you can request the Validation of foreign studies by partial Spanish university studies from part of your studies to a Spanish university of your choice.

If your degree is from the European Union, EEA or Switzerland, what options do you have?

If your degree is from the EEA, you can also exercise by applying for professional recognition from the Ministry of the Presidency, Justice and Relations with the Courts (mjusticia.gob.es) under Directive 2005/36/EC.

This procedure is free of charge.

Do you want to apply for other jobs with your degree?

If you do not wish to practice as a solicitor in Spain, you can always request the declaration of equivalence of your university studies and apply for jobs for your own account, for someone else’s account or for the public administration.

Consult the Official College of Prosecutors if the activities you wish to carry out are the prerogatives of the profession of solicitor or not.
