Do you want to practice as a teacher in Spain?

Professor of Compulsory Secondary Education and Baccalaureate, Vocational Training and Language Teaching is regulated in Spain and to exercise it you need a specific training and qualification regulated by law or regulation.

What do you need to validate your university degree?

To be a teacher of secondary school, FP or EOI in Spain it is required to be in possession of two degrees; a degree (basic qualification) and the master’s degree of training of the qualifying teachers for the exercise of the profession. Therefore, if your degree is foreign, you must take into account the following:

The evaluation criteria for the accreditation of teachers of Compulsory Secondary Education and Baccalaureate, Vocational Training and Language Teaching (aneca.es) prepared by the National Agency for Quality Evaluation and Accreditation (ANECA).

How to obtain the homologation?

Depending on your degree you will have to request one or both of the processes indicated in the table above.

  • With a university degree and fulfilling the necessary requirements to exercise the profession in the country of issuance of the degree. (Prior equivalence of my foreign base degree).
  • Have acquired the competences and modules established in Order ECI/3858/2007 (boe.es).
  • Linguistic competence in Spanish (level B2), if I am not a national of a state whose official languages include Spanish. Other exceptions are having completed in Spanish 75% of the time charge of the degree provided or having completed in Spanish the training prior to access to studies.
What documents should I provide?
  1. Document that proves the identity and nationality of the applicant.
  2. Title or certification accrediting your expedition.
    • Official translation into Spanish.
    • Legalized and apostilled (exempt titles of member countries of the European Union, European Economic Area and Switzerland).
  3. Academic certification, which includes:
    • The official duration in academic years of the curriculum.
    • The subjects passed and the total hourly load of each of them expressed in hours or in ECTS (European) credits.
    • If more than 15% of the total credits of the degree have been validated, provide a certificate from the institution from which the credits originate.
    • Official translation into Spanish.
    • Legalized and apostilled (exempt university degrees from EU member countries, EEA and Switzerland).
  4. Training in other official university studies other than the foreign degree that is to be approved and/or professional experience, providing that they complement academically the training obtained through the degree that is intended to be approved. The documents presented in this section must be properly legalized.

  5. Proof of payment of the fee:
    • Telematic payment (proof not necessary).
    • Payment with model 790-107 in collaborating entities.
    • Payment by transfer.
  6. Accreditation of language competence (unless the exceptions mentioned above apply to them).
  7. Documentary evidence that the requirements for practising the profession in the country of issue of the qualification have been met, if applicable.
How to apply for the approval?

The application procedure is processed exclusively through the electronic office of the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities in application for approval of foreign degrees (universidades.sede.gob.es).

IMPORTANT

If the ANECA has published general measures relating to its degree and university, the processing will be quicker. Check Measures to see if any general measures apply to your university degree.

If you do not find it, it does not mean that your degree does not meet the requirements to be approved, but that the ANECA will have to evaluate if it meets them.

If your degree is from the European Union, EEA or Switzerland, what options do you have?

If your degree is from the EEA, you can also exercise by applying for professional recognition from the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities according to Directive 2005/36/EC.
